The Georgia School Nutrition Foundation was established in 1967 to focus on the following key areas:
- Child Nutrition Research
- Professional Development for Staff
- Public Education on School Nutrition

Richard B. Russell Leadership Fund The GSN Foundation has committed to donate $75,000 over 10 years to the School Nutrition Foundation for speakers on Leadership at the SNA Annual Conference in honor of our three National SNA Presidents from Georgia, Josephine Martin, Mary Nix and Nancy Rice.
Manager's Retreat A training program targeted to the school food service manager. Eight hours of specialized topics and sharing of best practices in a small group setting. Funding includes overnight housing, meals, materials, and trainers.
Director's Retreat Begun in 2006. A training program just for Directors. One and a half days with a small group (about 20 -25) in a relaxed and comfortable location, to focus on the day to day as well as long range challenges in managing SN Programs.
State Leadership Training Training for 200 Local and District GSNA officers. District and Local officers receive leadership training through workshops and team building. Training is held in June of each year.
Scholarships Scholarships in the amount of $1,000.00 are available each year to Georgia School Nutrition Association (GSNA) members and their children. The number of scholarships given depends on the budget. In addition, the Frances Coleman Griffin Scholarship awards $1,000.00 yearly to a member who is getting state certified in school nutrition. All recipients must be pursuing college credit courses leading to a degree at an accredited college or university.
GSNA Leadership Academy Foundation donations provide training facilities and materials for Leadership Academy members. Members commit to a year long process of training and meetings. The purpose of the Leadership Academy is to train GSNA members who show leadership potential to take on additional leadership roles and responsibilities within GSNA, at the local, district, and, eventually, the state level. The skills learned may be applied to leadership positions in the member's employment and community.
Grants-in-Aid Grants of $500.00 each are available each year to GSNA members. The number of Grants awarded varies each year according to funds available. Grants may be used for continuing education needs, including books or travel expense.
Recognition Awards Financial awards for the winners of State and National competitions.
Headquarters Building The Foundation is the owner of the GSNA office building and is responsible for all repairs and upkeep, including property taxes.
The Foundation is exempt from federal income tax under IRS Code 501 (c) (3) and all donations to the Foundation are deductible as charitable contributions under the law.
